When Edwina Sharrock started Birth Beat she knew nothing about business. So much so, she had to Google ‘how to write a business plan’.

But this savvy female founder didn’t let this deter her. Driven by a passion to ensure every parent and career can have access to services no matter where they live; Edwina leveraged her background as an emergency nurse and midwife to develop her social enterprise. Birth Beat began as small classes to local parents-to-be from her family home. Today it has grown to encompass online courses that cover prenatal care and child first aid.

She’s been so successful she’s earned an Order of Australia and was recently honoured to be included in the Cartier Women’s Initiative.

She shares her journey.
