Cash in on Christmas fever with last-minute job opportunities

With Christmas fast approaching and severe skills and labour shortages across all industries causing supply bottlenecks, Aussies in their thousands are turning to skills marketplace, Airtasker, to find willing workers for a range of end-of-year odd jobs.

Data reveals a 40 per cent spike in tasks posted to Airtasker this month, compared to this time last year, for help around the home getting ready for Christmas.

Tim Fung, co-founder and CEO of Airtasker, said, “The top categories customers have been booking Taskers for include removalists, gardening, cleaning, handywork, waste disposal, furniture assembly, pick-up and delivery, plumbers and copywriting.”

This is great news for Aussie sole traders as prices for services rise across the board, with Airtasker releasing its new Services Calculator to help users understand the average price range being paid for services in 55 different skills categories.

“The severe shortage of skilled workers has driven up costs across the board, with many people now not sure what is a fair price to pay for services,” said Fung.

“Australians are proactively looking for ways to drive efficiency in their lives and this Services Calculator makes it easier for people to plan and budget for their next project.

“While there are many variables with tasks, whether it be urgency, complexity or duration, we have taken this into account providing both the lower and higher end of pricing.”

Fast money for Christmas

Tasker Rahnia Mackey started receiving bookings at the start of the month to help people install, pick up and decorate their Christmas tree and home.
