Why being a WAHM is good for you
I was never one of those mums who longed to return to work as soon as I had a baby. I never resented being a full time mum. I was made for parenting and I love every single minute of it. So much so, that it made me realise that I never wanted to return to the corporate hustle.
So as my children became more independent, I realised that I needed a way to start earning a living without returning to a corporate environment.
Whilst I could always see the benefits for my family working from home, I never fully understood the ways in which it would benefit me personally. Hereโs why being a working at home mum (WAHM) is good for you.
Whether itโs with the music on, the music off, dogs in the office, slippers or PJs, WAHMs all over the world are working on their own terms. Not only is this comfortable, but itโs far more productive than having to conform to corporate standards.
I love to get things done. Iโm a super organised person by nature so being able to achieve personal tasks whilst making a cup of tea (which I can have whenever I want) is so liberating! I can hang out a load of washing, prepare dinner or pay a bill without anyone looking over my shoulder. Maybe a trip to the shops to buy a birthday present or buy something for dinner during my โlunch breakโ. All of this frees up my time to spend quality moments being totally present with my family.
No white offices, getting in early to get the best hot desk, crazy artwork or annoying colleagues. Being able to set my desk up the way I like it feels amazing. To be free of corporate requirements and stresses means Iโm a much happier person.
Not everything runs to plan. Kids get sick, clients cancel at the last moment, internet goes down. All of these incidents give me the opportunity to find a new way, use my problem solving skills and be flexible. So instead of it being the end of the world, it becomes a challenge that needs to be overcome. And how does that make me feel? Alive!
I have no commute. I have no morning rush. So not only do I have additional time for myself at the beginning and end of the day, but I enjoy the flexibility to also make time for myself during the day. A sneaky coffee at the local cafรฉ, a walk to the water, or an exercise routine before the kids wake up. This is the result of not having to be somewhere at a certain time. Itโs work my way.
People think a WAHM spends hours watching Netflix. But I can tell you Iโm a super productive member of society! It has definitely been a great change for the positive for my mental and physical health. I love it and wouldnโt trade it for anything.
What do you love about working from home?
