You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?
I go for a walk in a nearby park. It has good walking pathways and in half an hour I can do one full lap of the park – a great way to clear my head and helps my creative juices to flow.
What’s the most enjoyable element of your work? And the least enjoyable?
The most enjoyable – working with my clients and watching them gain the confidence to use the skills they’ve learnt effectively.
The least enjoyable – I don’t have anyone to delegate to so keeping on top of my paperwork can be a challenge.
What’s the best thing about being a soloist? And the worst thing?
The best thing – I love the freedom and flexibility that I have in my daily routine.
The worst thing – sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do.
What inspires you most about your work?
Knowing I’m helping others to improve the way they communicate in the workplace.
What’s the best bit of feedback you’ve ever had?
A participant in a seminar that I ran recently told me that he enjoyed the session because I was down-to-earth, a realist and gave practical tips.
What’s your number one stress relief tactic?
Getting out into the fresh air for some exercise – going for a paddle out on the water or going for a walk are my favourites.
What do you love most about running your own business?
Being creative in my approach to the projects that I work on. Each client is unique and I enjoy finding ways to assist them in meeting their needs. I love what I do – life’s too short not to love what you do.
What book are you reading?
I’ve just received Flying Solo’s latest book – How to go it alone in business revisited. I’m enjoying reading it and it’s a good reminder of why I became a soloist and what I need to do to arrive at where I want to be.
How would you describe yourself in three adjectives?
Focused, proactive, positive.
Can you stop at just one chocolate biscuit?
No – I love my chocolate. It’s my reward and my comfort food – one of the simple pleasures of life.
